Goal
Enhanced agricultural research
efficiency, production/ productivity and product quality of plants, animals
and microbes through the application biotechnology.
Objectives
The objectives of the agricultural biotechnology research are:
- to support and enhance the existing plant and animal improvement research
programs and projects through intervening in those areas where conventional
methods have limitations or require long time to come up with required
technologies
- to increase quality and quantity of export commodities through application
of plant, animal and microbial biotechnology research methods like recombinant
DNA techniques
- to conserve Ethiopia's rich biological resources and diversity as
well as protect the environment through application of modern tools
of biotechnology
- to promote in home production of imported biological and bio-products
and create novel products for world market, and
- to promote production, productivity and quality of agricultural raw
materials for national bio-, agro- and biochemical industries
Mission
The mission of the agricultural biotechnology research and development
programs is generation and/or transfer and adoption of new and high performing,
high quality and safe agricultural technologies in the shortest possible
time with lowest possible resource input, and changing these technologies
into business through setting appropriate technology transfer system.
