Goal
 To contribute to the development
of policies and technologies that improve the livestock sector through
improvement in profitability, income distribution, biological efficiency
while maintaining and enhancing biodiversity and natural resources.
Objectives
- Stabilization of input supplies through research to reduce vulnerability to weather and other stresses and through market oriented production system
- Maintaining export earnings
- Creating income and employment opportunities
- Development of technologies tailored to solve commodity production as well as focusing on matching agricultural technologies to market and processing opportunities which provide additional income and create off-farm employment in agricultural related enterprises.
- Developing effective mechanism of coordination of national animal agriculture
research and development work in the country
- Identifying resource base, conserve and judiciously exploit the indigenous
animal and plant genetic resources in sustainable manner
- Improving environmental degradation through management and policy options
- Mobilizing resources for agricultural research
- Developing an effective and sustained national research capacity-iImprove
the national capacity of the animal science research system - targeting key
capacities needed by institutions for effective, efficient, and responsive
system
