Goal
The goal of the sector is to increase the productivity of land, to conserve
and efficiently utilize the soil and water resources and to optimize the
scientific capacity of the research centers.
Objectives
To attain the goal stated above, the following objectives have been formulated:
- To conduct prioritized research agenda in the sector under important
AEZs and watershed setups
- To build strong research capacity in the sector
- To verify and popularize technologies in participation with the farming
communities
Research programs
Five major areas of research have been identified. These are the following:
- Soil resources characterization and evaluation
- Soil fertility and plant nutrient management
- Soil conservation and management
- Soil physical and chemical management, and
- Water conservation, irrigation and drainage.
