Highland Maize Research
Developing high-yielding open-pollinated, top-cross, and three-way cross hybrid maize varieties adapted to highland agro-ecologies.
In collaboration with the national highland maize research program, KARC has released eight highland-adapted maize varieties with yield potentials reaching up to 12.5 t/ha on-station. Research focuses on broadening the genetic base, classifying inbred lines into heterotic groups, and conducting on-farm demonstration and scaling trials across high-potential zones like Arsi.
