Oilseeds Research
Advancing high-oil-content and high-yielding oilseed varieties to boost edible oil self-sufficiency and industrial supply.
Conducted in close collaboration with the national oil crops coordination unit at Holeta, this program develops and maintains elite varieties of linseed, Ethiopian mustard, sunflower, Nigerseed (noug), and safflower. Released varieties demonstrate seed yields up to 2.9 t/ha and oil content reaching up to 46.8%, supported by participatory varietal selection and early-generation seed multiplication.
