The Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research (EIAR) is Ethiopia’s federal agricultural research body, established in 1966, coordinating national agricultural research and operating research centers across diverse agro-ecological zones. EIAR is one of Africa’s oldest and largest agricultural research institutions, tracing its origins back to agricultural schools established in Ambo and Jimma and the development of the Debre Zeit experiment station. Today, EIAR plays a central role in generating, adapting and delivering agricultural technologies, knowledge and innovations that contribute to increased productivity, food security, climate resilience and improved livelihoods across Ethiopia.
