Nationally, there is 23 research centers under the EIAR, and this number might rise further, which is the main reason for the necessity of establishing up the Research Centers Coordination and Development Directorate. As a result, holding the Director General of EIAR responsible for such a vast number of centers, as was done in the past, could prevent the Director General from concentrating on strategic initiatives that strengthen the institute’s need. On the other hand, since research centers may not get immediate solutions to the support they need, organizing research centers coordination and development directorate will be of great importance in terms of identifying and solving the problems systematically such as center and infrastructure development that research centers face on a daily basis.

Research Centers Coordination Directorate has the following two research programs at headquarters:

1. Support and Monitor of the Research Center Program
2. Research Centers Development Program
