EIAR and ICARDA Hosted a Wheat Workshop

EIAR and ICARDA jointly held a workshop on accelerating genetic gain in wheat through hybrid breeding at EIAR’s Hiruy Hall in September 2023.

The workshop, according to Dr. Negash Geleta, national wheat coordinator, is aimed to inform stakeholders that hybrid wheat has a greater benefit in disease and drought tolerance than traditional wheat varieties. He also stated that the hybrid wheat obtained and adopted by farmers resulted in a significant improvement in productivity per unit area. Various papers pertaining to the agenda were presented during the workshop.
